6 books that changed my life (you must read!)
Last week on LinkedIn I shared the 6 books that changed my life.
There was lots of questions about what I learnt from these books.
So I thought I would make a video to share more details about how these books helped me and can hopefully help you in your career too.
I also included some bonus ones that weren’t in my post.
Have you read these books?

✍️ How to get work that excites me (without losing my current clients)
Last week in Balanced Business Bootcamp, I had an awesome 1-1 Business Clinic with one of my students Javier, who asked a great question:
How can I get more of the work I’m excited about without losing my current clients?
I totally get it – doing work that doesn’t inspire you can be a real bummer. But there are ways to attract the work you want without losing your current clients.
Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Make personal projects that align with the work you want to do.
To attract the work you want, you need to show that you can do it.
So set aside some time each week to work on projects that showcase your skills in the areas you want to focus on.
I know it’s difficult to find time to work on personal projects while you’re busy with your current clients but start small with just a couple of hours a week, and build up from there.
This will help you build a portfolio of work you’re proud of and that demonstrates your abilities and interests.
Step 2: Talk to others about that type of work.
Networking is key to building a career in any niche. So connect with other designers, animators, or creative professionals who do the kind of work you want to focus on.
They may be able to offer advice, refer clients to you, or even collaborate on projects.
Step 3: Focus your marketing efforts on those types of clients.
To attract the kind of clients you want, focus your marketing efforts on the work you want to do.
But don’t worry, you won’t scare away your current clients if you only show the type of work you like to do. They’ll still come back to you!
Start by creating case studies that showcase your work in that area and share them on your website and social media platforms.
Separate out your case studies into different social media posts to attract clients who are specifically interested in that kind of work. I made a case study workshop here that shows you exactly how to do this.
Build in public: Share your work and creative process as you go to build an audience and attract potential clients who are interested in working with you.
Step 4: Directly reach out to clients you want to work for with examples of that work.
If there are specific clients you want to work with, reach out to them directly with examples of your work.
Use your case studies to demonstrate how you can help them achieve their goals. For direct clients case studies are especially powerful. They want to see the results of your work with similar companies to theirs.
Step 5: Change your positioning on your website and social media.
Once you have a few clients in the backlog, it’s time to update your website and social media to reflect your new focus.
Make it clear that you’re passionate about this kind of work and that you’re actively seeking new clients who need your help.
This will help attract even more of the kind of work you want to make.
By following these steps, you can build a portfolio of work you’re passionate about and attract the clients you want to work with.
Don’t be afraid to take a risk and focus on the work that inspires you – it may be the key to building a successful and fulfilling career.
