Creative Insights From A Dude Abroad

April 24, 2024

Hey friends,

Damn, this month flew by.

Since we last spoke I’ve hosted my second Content Creator retreat here in Mexico, and it was unbelievable.

If you’re new here, me and my good friend Leni [ @lenigruber ] designed a retreat dedicated to teaching people how to shoot and edit their content as well as how to turn their passion for content creation into their career.

Here are a few things I’ve learned from doing my second retreat:

CONTROL YOUR SETTINGS //Our first retreat was hosted at Selina, a hostel built for digital nomads and remote work. Our second retreat was hosted at a Boutique Hotel which was completely reserved for our retreat. While Selina is a great place to stay, having the entire location to ourselves proved to be far more efficient, collaborative and easier to make changes on the fly.

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED //During our retreat we experienced a totaled drone, flat tire on a rental car, and FOUR hospital visits for various illnesses / accidents (nothing major). It was unbelievable how these incidents kept coming. With that said a positive outlook, confident leadership, and ability to roll with these punches, impacted our retreater’s outlook on the events. Even with all of these issues we’ve received nothing but great feedback about the week.

WORK WITH THE RIGHT PERSONALITIES //For this retreat we brought in one of my best friends I’ve made this past year, Betsy Pippen [ @betsypippen ] to assist in the operations and make sure everything was moving smoothly. She has a very hospitable personality and was eager to drop everything to make sure people had the best experience. Having a personality trait like that can’t be taught and seeing her flourish in the role was not only amazing to watch, but also made us realize how valuable that role is. If you’ve Betsy, you know exactly why she’d be so great at it.

In my opinion this retreat was lightyears ahead of the first and I’m super excited to continue to improve it.

We’re already heads down planning the next retreat for this summer so if you’re interested join the wait list here πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

You know when you see an image on social and without reading the name you know exactly who posted it? For me, @shortstache is the master of that while creating a consistent look and feel in his photography. Take a look at his feed and scroll through; you’ll notice subtle hints of evolution, but the overall aesthetic has been consistently impressive for years.
