Your Next Breakthrough
If you’re like me, you like a no-nonsense approach to self-development.
It’s why I like the style of Mark Manson. Every week, he provides one idea, one question, and one exercise that could spark your next breakthrough. No fluff, no filler, no BS. Just five minutes each week that might change everything.

Habits and Communication
Today’s newsletter is short.
There’s a twofold reason for that, and they both relate to exactly what we’re going to discuss in this newsletter.
We’re going to talk about habits and how to convey your thoughts and I’ll share a tweet with you on each.
Sustainable Habits
I always share the importance of habits with you and the importance of compounding, which is why this is something you need to understand:
The best habit you can choose is the one you can sustain.
Think about it for a minute.
It’s great to work out hard every day for a week.
It’s better to work out moderately every day for years.
It’s great to fast intermittently for a few days.
It’s better to maintain a healthy diet through the decades.
Stop looking for the magic pill.
Start looking for the habits and behaviors you can sustain.
Simon Sinek does an excellent job explaining it here:
You’re not going to know when the magic will happen.
What you need to know is it’s going to happen eventually.
This is why you’ll need to be patient on the results and persistent on the process.
As always, my friends, remember it goes slow until it goes fast.
Clear + Concise Communication
This second one’s short.
When you’re communicating an idea, I want you to think of this.
The communication should be exactly as long as it needs to be to convey the message you need to convey.
Here’s an example of that in play and how sometimes people can confuse it to think shorter is always better – it’s not.
Sometimes, it needs to be long.
Sometimes, brevity is what matters.
The goal, though, is to say it clearly in as few words as possible, so here’s a picture:
TGG Podcast
This week on the Growth Guide Podcast, we re-released one of our top listened to episodes with our guest Brad Ritter. We talked about his book, School of Grit: Unlock Your Potential Through Purposeful Adversity.β
School of Grit will show you how to master your inner dialogue, raise your self-imposed ceiling, and condition your mindset to seek purposeful pain and adversity.
Some of the powerful ideas we discussed include:
- Have a monthly milestone challenge
- Be proactive with your morning routine
- Find your purpose with the “Five Why’s”
- Design your day like you’re a SIMs character
- There’s no magic pill – it’s on you to cure your troubles
