Walk Back Down the Mountain
Good News !
We sold our house.
Even better, we set a record price.
But, it’s hard to describe how I’m feeling right now. I guess I’d say:
Most of all, though, I feel like I failed…
When I convinced my wife to build our house, I sold her on a vision.
The vision had us being here for 20+ years and having dinners with our children and grandkids.
When I was building that vision, though, I expected I’d be a shareholder at work and continue on the path I was on.
That didn’t work out.
Being a shareholder wasn’t on the table.
So, I needed to take a different path. Forge a different outcome.
Sure, I could have stayed.
They were paying me boatloads of money.
The problem is, when you start to climb the mountain, you see there are greater peaks beyond it that you can climb.
But, here’s the rub.
To climb to the higher peaks you see, you need to walk back down the mountain first.
You need to take steps backwards to take steps forward.
Sometimes, you need to be willing to go back down the mountain to take a different path higher and that’s what we’re doing now.
Here I share a post about our house and what I’ll miss for posterity.
Beginner’s Mindset
What we’re talking about here is a beginner’s mindset.
The willingness to take steps down the mountain to start over again.
It requires a willingness to let go of your ego and fear and to begin again. Naval Ravikant sums it up well in this video here:
The two biggest roadblocks I see are money and ego.
We get used to making a certain amount of money and let our lifestyle inflate to what we’re making and can’t give it up.
We also tend to tie our ego to the job we have. To the level of prestige we believe it gives us. But, the reality is, we aren’t our job. We aren’t our position. And, nobody even thinks about it.
When you’re willing to let go of your pride and live lean, you can start over and climb to higher peaks.
I feel like I failed…
But, the truth is I just began again.
And, I know, I’m going to go much further this time.
Next month, we’ll start to share what we’re doing with everyone and we’re excited for you to have the opportunity to come on this journey with us.
