BFW: How to Find Time to Learn New Skills
Reader,
Welcome to another edition of Brain Food Wednesdays, your weekly intellectual feast. In the 236th issue, I’m writing about how to find time to learn new skills.
For many of us, trying to find time to learn new skills can seem impossible. However, with a few simple tips, you can easily find time to learn the skills you need.
How to Find Time to Learn New Skills
Lifelong learning and developing new skills are essential for personal growth. However, with the demands of work and life, it’s difficult to find time to learn. There are things you can do to make sure you’re making the most of your time. Set aside time each week to work on your personal and professional development. It doesn’t have to be a lot of time, but it should be enough that you can focus on learning new skills.
Business Skills are Important
Consider what skills you need to develop. Identify the essential skills for success. Once you know what you need to learn, look for opportunities to gain those skills. One great way to learn new skills is through online courses or tutorials. Reading books is also helpful. There are many free resources available that can teach you the basics of various subjects.
Make Time for Learning
Here are some tips on how to make time for learning:
- At the beginning of each day, take a few minutes to plan out your tasks and prioritize them based on importance.
- Don’t get stuck in the “busy loop.” Take a few minutes to step back and ask yourself: “Is this really critical?” If not, set it aside and do it later.
- Set aside time each day or week for learning. Dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to reading industry-related articles or taking online courses. Dedicating a few hours each week to your professional growth will pay off in the long run.
- Use your commute time to listen to podcasts or audiobooks related to your field.
- Use your lunch break to read articles or watch webinars instead of scrolling through social media.
- Use resources at work. Many workplaces offer opportunities for employees to attend workshops or take online courses during work hours.
- Become an early riser. Use this time to read articles or listen to podcasts related to your field.
Create a Learning Plan
When you’re trying to find time to learn new skills, create a learning plan. Here are a few tips to help you get started:
- Decide how much time you’ll devote each week for learning. Dedicate time specifically for learning new things.
- Create a goal list. What skills do you want to learn? What do you hope to accomplish? Having a list will help keep you focused and on track as you’re learning.
- Find online learning resources to learn the skills you’re interested in.
- Find a mentor or coach. If you know someone who already has the skills you want to learn, ask them if they wouldn’t mind helping you out.
