A second major illusion on which the school system rests is that most learning is the result of teaching. Teaching, it is true, may contribute to certain kinds of learning under certain circumstances. But most people acquire most of their knowledge outside school, and in school only insofar as school, in a few rich countries, has become their place of confinement during an increasing part of their lives.”

Construction Progress!

This weekend Matt rented a boom lift to finish the sheathing. Next up: roof decking!

I spent many hours this week on school planning. How about you? One part of a new school year for us is always reevaluating how our daily and weekly chores are going. I made a new chore list, but also, inspired by the ladies inside Convivial Circle, I made a “get ready for the school year” bingo card for my 11yo and 14yo.

I hope you haven’t missed my conversations about reimagining and gamifying chores on the Simplified Organization podcast! I also worked up a blog post on kids’ chores based on both interviews: A new way to do kids’ chore checklists.

“I have more time than I thought I did!”

Sarah Anne, a member inside Convivial Circle, finished the Bust Out of Burnout Bingo Card this week and shared a win that I think all of us can relate to and find motivation from:

I learned that I have time to do more than I thought I did! Plus, while I was doing the “remove trash from your purse” task, I went ahead and moved back into my regular purse from my travel purse. I’d been procrastinating on that for months “because I didn’t have time to bother,” yet it was so easy once I just started!

What are you procrastinating on because you think you don’t have time? Here’s my challenge: Set a timer and just start for 10 minutes. You’ll be surprised that it’s probably not as big a deal as you imagined! Try it and hit reply, telling me what you did and how it went!

See you next week!
