BFW: Enhance Your Mind with Strategic Reading

Dear Reader,

Hey there, Brain Food Wednesday subscribers,

Welcome back to your weekly dose of mental nutrition, issue 239th! Today we’re diving into the art of strategic reading. You’ll learn one way to get into the alpha brain wave state.

Let’s start things off with a fun experiment. Grab an unread book you’ve been wanting to crack open from your collection. But here’s the twist: before you dig in, jot down your one-sentence purpose for reading it. What burning questions do you want this book to answer for you? What new skills or knowledge are you hoping to gain?

Now, let’s set the stage for effective reading by getting into the alpha brain wave state. Think of it as a zone where you’re relaxed yet alert – perfect for absorbing new ideas.

Take a moment to close your eyes and breathe deeply. Picture the number three flashing in your mind three times, then the number two, and finally the number one. Congratulations, you’re now in the alpha zone. Trust the process.

As you crack open that book, start with a preview. Read the foreword, preface, and introduction. Glance at the table of contents to see which parts resonate with your purpose and questions. Scanning the index might also reveal key themes or pages worth exploring.

Dive into the chapters that align with your goals. Take notes as you read and check out those flagged pages from the index.

After your reading session, reflect. Did the book deliver what you were seeking? If so, pat yourself on the back; mission accomplished. If not, identify any gaps in your understanding. Perhaps another book could fill those knowledge holes.

Congratulations! You’ve just practiced active reading. How did it feel?

For those hungry for more mind-boosting techniques, I invite you to join me for Applied Knowledge is Power: Reading Strategically to Get Knowledge Faster on September 13th and 20th. We’ll explore advanced reading strategies and other ways to tap into that alpha groove.

Ready to nourish your brain even more? Let’s level up together!
