BFW-What Do You Need to Remember?
Dear Reader,
In this edition of Brain Food Wednesdays, issue 204, I look at what you need to remember. What’s something important you’ve forgotten that you need to remember?
I’ve been busy working on a project, summarizing futurism books for a professor. The project has been more difficult than I expected. And a big part of the problem is that I forgot something that I knew well. Based on what I write about, if you’ve been reading this newsletter for a while, you know I often write about effective reading strategies.
Part of what I teach is a concept called leadership reading, where you read to learn what you need to know. The process starts off with having a purpose for reading the book. My purpose for each of the futurism books is to understand it so I can create Bookish Notes for the professor.
I know the reading process because I’ve been doing it for years. Yet I had a momentary lapse – or a few momentary lapses. Your purpose determines which sections in the book to read. I was stressed and getting bogged down because many of the books were very dense. Several times I had to stop myself and wear my client’s shoes. What sections of the book would her ideal clients be interested in?
This is something important that I had forgotten a few times. While returning home last night, I felt I needed to write about this. I do not know who needs to hear this message.
Think back to the last two months. What have you forgotten that you need to remember?
